Life in the Ladin valleys once

 vita tradizioni

Life in the Ladin valleys was once characterised by hard work in the fields and forests. The farmers managed to overcome the arduous daily grind through mutual support and the mutual use of resources. This led to the founding of economic collectives such as "Regoles" in Cortina d'Ampezzo with its historical headquarters "Ciasa de ra Regoles". A typical feature of Val Badia are the "viles", agricultural core settlements about half way up the side of the valley facing south, occupied by a several families. The settlements consist of a few farm houses and barns with their essential rustic services, where the surrounding fields and woods were worked together by the farmers. This nucleus differs from the settlements typical of South Tyrol which consist of individual farms.
